Flat Slide

This a Harley-Davidson Screamin' Eagle 50mm flat slide carburetor!!!  I was walking through the shop today and noticed one of my guys working on none other than....... a carburetor.  It seems odd, but we don't see many of these anymore with the advent of tighter EPA regs and the growing use of fuel injection, so when I saw this one I had to snap a shot of it.

You see, a flat slide carb is not  just a carburetor, it is a high performance piece of engineering.  It uses a slide instead of a butterfly valve to control the fuel air mixture thru the venturi, enabling it to more smoothly and efficiently deliver the mixture to the engine.  The 50mm refers to the diameter of the opening to the intake which is 4 mm larger than the stock intake.  4mm might not sound like much but it is almost 10% larger.  More fuel and more air means more HP!!  And more exhaust, thus the scarcity of this fine piece of history these days

In short, with one of these babies on your Harley it is faster, smoother and almost more importantly, it sounds amazing!!  So enjoy!!!
